Straighty Girl

I've been doing a little experiment this summer. I established a relationship with an awesome hair person, and each week for the last few months, she has been blow-drying my hair out straight(ish). I have been interested to absorb the various reactions to me without curly hair.

For the most part, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. When I went to traffic court to discuss a parking ticket that never should have occurred, the parking magistrate complimented me on my cute suit and readily agreed to dismiss the ticket. Yesterday, as I was munching on my brown rice sushi at Whole Foods, I ran into a couple I knew who told me I looked very "Professional" (hmmm. . . in a linen skirt and yellow tank top?). NJG has never actually seen me with curly hair, he thinks my straight hair is hottt.

The only people who really seem to miss my curly hair are my parents and one or two friends. And me, occasionally. Unfortunately at this point my hair is probably so dry and damaged that it is hard to do it consistently curly again. My mental state is frazzled when my hair is frizzy. Even the Wall Street Journal recently recognized the link between good hair days and self-esteem. Also, because I was my hair much less frequently, I have more time to be productive.

The experiment continues.
